Maintenance is money an applicant may need to show is available for support after arrival. It is separate from the visa fee and healthcare surcharge.

Published amounts
- Main applicant: £1,270.
- Partner: £285.
- First child: £315.
- Each additional child: £200.
- Example: a main applicant, partner and one child would total £1,870 where evidence is required for everyone.
Evidence period
- The money is normally held for at least 28 consecutive days.
- Day 28 must fall within 31 days before the application date.
- The bank evidence must meet the route’s published financial-evidence rules.
- Maintenance money is not paid to the government; it remains the applicant’s money.
When evidence may not be required
- The sponsor confirms on the Certificate of Sponsorship that it will maintain and accommodate the applicant, where permitted.
- The applicant has been in the UK with valid permission for at least 12 months before applying.
- A dependant has had valid UK permission for at least 12 months, subject to the published rules.
- The official application may still request information or evidence based on the answers provided.
