UK Student visa cost 2026: application fee and IHS

A clear breakdown for one applicant. The final IHS depends on the visa period calculated by the official service—not simply the course length.

01

Application fee for one person

  • The Student visa application fee is £558 whether applying from outside the UK, extending inside the UK or switching inside the UK.
  • Each dependant makes a separate application and pays their own fee.
02

Immigration Health Surcharge

  • The student-rate IHS is £776 per year for each Student applicant and eligible dependant.
  • The official calculator charges for the period of immigration permission, which can include time before and after the course. Part-years are calculated under the published IHS rules.
  • Example only: three full chargeable years at £776 per year equals £2,328 for one person. Use the official calculator for the actual amount.
03

Optional faster service

  • Priority service is £500 per applicant and super priority is £1,000 per applicant when offered.
  • Availability depends on the application route, location and appointment. Paying does not improve the chance of approval.
04

What is not included

  • Course fees and any financial evidence are separate from government charges.
  • Visa application centre extras, translations, TB testing, travel and document services may create additional costs.
