Student visa maintenance funds: London and outside London

Living-cost amount
- Courses in London: £1,529 per month for up to 9 months—maximum £13,761.
- Courses outside London: £1,171 per month for up to 9 months—maximum £10,539.
- London means the City of London and the 32 London boroughs. Check the main teaching site shown by the sponsor.
Course fees
- The applicant normally needs the outstanding course fees for one academic year, up to 9 months, as stated on the CAS.
- Eligible payments already made to the sponsor may reduce the amount if correctly recorded on the CAS or evidenced under the rules.
Holding period
- Where bank funds are used, the required amount must normally be held for at least 28 consecutive days.
- The end of that 28-day period must be within 31 days of the application date.
- Only financial institutions and evidence permitted by the Student rules should be used.
When evidence may not need to be submitted
- A person who has been living in the UK with a valid visa for at least 12 months before applying does not need to prove the financial requirement.
- Differential-evidence applicants may not need to submit the evidence initially, but UKVI can still request it.
- An exemption from submitting evidence does not change the need to provide accurate information or respond to a UKVI request.
